Population distribution in Michigan is most dense in Southeastern Michigan, in and around metro Detroit. From Wayne county, the population sprawls outward in all directions until the south central region of the state, where the population becomes sparse. This low density is also the trend of the northen counties and counties of the upper peninsula. Once you reach the western part of the state, and specifically the southwestern portion, the population increases again. The hispanic population follows the same trend pattern as general population density.
